Creamy homemade ice cream swirled with the simple Berry Sauce that we’ve loved for years was an inspired idea the other day when I saw a jar of leftover sauce in the fridge.

Is there anything more delicious than homemade ice cream on a warm summer night? I really don’t think there is.

I served this Berry Ice Cream over brownies with extra berry sauce the first time I made it and the chocolate and berry combination was fantastic.

However, the ice cream is absolutely delicious on its own in a cone or in a bowl.

As evidenced by the slew of ice cream recipes here on the website – 162 at last count – I love ice cream. I love homemade ice cream, grocery store ice cream, artisan ice cream, gelato, and frozen yogurt. Did I mention I love ice cream?

Years ago, I started a hashtag for # icecreameverydaydiet on Instagram, just because I was sharing so many ice cream photos. (It cracks me up how popular the tag is now, due to the ice cream trends that have taken over social media!)

When traveling, one of my favorite things to do is check out the local ice cream options. When I’m home? My first ice cream choice is always going to be the newest flavor I’ve dreamed up.

Lemon Sorbet and the Dirty Banana were both inspired by cruises.

Brownie Berry Ice Cream is swirled with the marionberry preserves that I picked up in Portland, OR while on a trip with my friend Christi . (If marionberry jam isn’t available where you are, this ice cream will be delicious with any berry jam that you love.)

Tart and sweet Roasted Rhubarb Ice Cream is the flavor combo my taste buds crave. I love anything with a sweet contrast.

Homemade Berry Ice Cream - 5

Berry Ice Cream

  1. Prepare the Berry Sauce recipe and set aside to cool a bit. Whisk together the cream, milk, sugar, salt, and vanilla. Add 1/3 cup of the Berry Sauce and stir to combine.
  2. Place the remaining berry sauce in the refrigerator to chill while the ice cream is churning.
  3. Pour into your ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Scoop the churned ice cream into a freezer container, adding a few spoonfuls of the COLD berry sauce along with the ice cream.
  4. Swirl lightly with a knife and freeze until firm. Serve with remaining berry sauce on top.
