Spice mixes save home cooks a ton of time in the kitchen. But, did you know you can make your own? This pumpkin pie spice mix is a cozy blend of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. I love using it in so many baked goods and sweet treats.

Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix
It feels like the old TV public service announcement, but this time for us cooks. “Do you know what’s in your spice mix?” I’ve found that store-bought mixes are often just a simple combination of the spices that are already in my cupboard.
Italian seasoning, taco seasoning, and all the other rubs, blends, and mixes are really just a handy way to save time and standardize the experience by just getting out one jar. This pumpkin pie spice mix is no different. It captures all the warmth of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger that you could add separately, but this way you don’t have to measure each individual ingredient.

How to Make Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix
I will warn you that once you learn how to make pumpkin pie spice mix, there’s no going back. Not only is it ridiculously easy, but you can also tailor it exactly to your taste. For example, in my pumpkin spice blend, I like to sneak in just a pinch of cardamom.
I find that it adds a subtle elegance. It’s not easy to pick it out in the flavors, but you can tell that something is just a little different. I first fell in love with cardamom when my sister showed me how she adds it to her daily coffee. What a treat that has become.
Maybe you’ll add another of your favorite spices like I do, or adjust the levels of the other ingredients. For me, I don’t especially care for the taste of cloves and allspice, so I keep them subtle in this mix. No matter how you make it your own, I recommend giving it a try. It always leaves me satisfied when I put the finished label on a jar of my own seasoning blend. It feels like leveling up my cooking game.

Other Spice Mixes
I don’t want to get too into the weeds, but I have to take a second to show some of the other spice mixes I’ve found worth making. Homemade taco seasoning is light-years ahead of the packets they sell in the store. Though, I do typically add more cayenne than the recipe card calls for, because at my house we like the heat.
I used to sprinkle Jane’s Krazy Mixed Up Salt on the soft-boiled eggs I adore having for breakfast, just about every day. It’s hard to believe how long it took me think of making my own, but I really do love my crazy salt .
I almost always double and triple this Italian seasoning blend when I make it, if only because it keeps me from paying the store prices. We go through a lot of it. And this fragrant all-purpose Lebanese spice blend is the secret to enhancing all your Middle Eastern dishes.
It is possible to make an at-home version of just about any seasoning blend that exists in store. You can do it. It just takes some time, and the willingness to adjust a few times until it’s exactly the way you want it to be. Then, boom! You leveled up.

Pumpkin Spice Desserts
You can use this pumpkin pie spice mix in so many different ways. I like to sprinkle it over oatmeal, or add a pinch to my lattes in the morning. It works well with sweet potatoes and carrots, no matter how you prepare them. But, that said, there’s no denying just how special pumpkin spice desserts are.
Fall rolls around, and it’s essentially game over for self-control. Gone are the days of pumpkin pies appearing once per year to herald the arrival of Thanksgiving. Whether it’s a pumpkin spice latte or a pumpkin roll, the list of sweets that showcase this awesome blend of spices only seems to grow each year.
And, I’m certainly not complaining! Anything that keeps me coming back to this jar of powdered happiness is a good thing. It’s so fragrant, just opening the jar reminds me of pumpkin pies and warm apple crisps.
